Gospel music speaks to our soul and refreshes our spirt. The New Year is a time to lift any burdens off our shoulders and give them to the Lord. Christian music is powerful, it moves us, makes us snap our fingers and bob our heads. It can change our state of mind and be an effective therapeutic tool.
The bible tells us King Saul found peace and relief in times of stress and torment when David played him music. “Whenever the spirit from God came on Saul, David would take up his lyre and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.” 1 Samuel 16:23.
Gospel Music Increases Our Faith
Listen to gospel music, biblical teaching, and testimonials are a great way to help us focus our minds on God. We find ourselves singing along -whether out loud or in our mind- memorizing the lyrics and worshiping the Lord. Instead of scattered thoughts and stress, music takes our attention back to our faith.
The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang: “He is good; his love endures forever.” The temple of the Lord was filled with the cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God. 2 Chronicles 5:13-14
Can you just imagine this scene? Everyone joining together, singing thanks to the Lord. Singing His praises and knowing His love endures forever!
Uplifts Our Soul
With all the stress of life, it can be difficult to feel mental clarity and peace. The positive impact gospel music has on our autonomic nervous system has shown to improve our mental well being. Communing with the Lord through melodies and words leads us to a calming spiritual mindset.
“I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice.” Psalm 34:1-2
