For many of us the New Year isn’t feeling very exciting and new. Instead, crossing the threshold into a new year feels a lot like the several past months. But gospel music has the ability to change all that.
Psalm 98: 1-7 Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. 2 The LORD has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations. 3 He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; 5 make music to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, 6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn— shout for joy before the LORD, the King.
We hear the same news, hatred mixed with COVID. You scroll through social media and you see about the same.
Brokenness and sin seem to rampant in our world. But we can find hope and joy in the midst, because we serve a God who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Lamentations 3:22-23. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Rejoice in the Lord
Take a break out of your day and listen to God’s word, beautiful gospel music, and devotionals. It reminds us how God provides and protects. He gives us peace, joy, and comfort. While our sins affords none of it, God finds a way to forgive. His sacrifice of his Son and steadfast love are illustrations of God’s grace bestows on us every day.
James 1: 2-4. Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
Everyday is a gift
We have breath in our lungs, relationships we hold close to our hearts, our ability to feel and freely think. We need to make an effort to choose to see God every day! Serve Him in the ordinary of everyday life. Your circumstances may not change, but your perspective will. Each day has beauty and opportunity.
Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise
Wake up everyday and realize it is a gift from God. Receive God’s blessings with a grateful heart. Look to the days and months ahead with a renewed joy, knowing that He is with you every step of your journey.
