Divorce can be a touchy subject, which is why John Allen wrote, “Divorce: Through the Eyes of God’s Love”. To help people who have been divorced and hurt not only from their painful broken marriages, but also hurt from those in the church.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33

Many of us have seen and even experienced the pain from a person who is supposed to comfort you, encourage you, motivate you, and embrace you, but instead look down their holier-than-thou noses at you, attempting to make you feel worse than you already do, simply because you’re divorced.

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. Psalm 27:14

God inspired John Allen to write this book to let the divorced people in this world know that He loves you so much and He will never stop loving you and He will never leave you nor forsake you, even if you’re divorced.

Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. James 4:8a

One of the first things we need to do is ask and accept God’s forgiveness for our divorce, whether we believe it’s our fault or not. Then, we need to forgive ourselves, which seems to be the area that is preying on the most, because when you refuse to forgive yourself, you open the door for guilt, condemnation, foolish accusations, assumptions, and a host of other things that will hinder your growth with God and yourself.

Therefore, it’s imperative to forgive yourself and to pursue the act of forgetting.

“Forgetting those things which are behind and continue to reach or strive forward, always pressing toward the goal that God has for you in Christ Jesus” Philippians 3:13-14

Listening to gospel music reminds of this hope. That Jesus is the answer, and anything is possible when we have Jesus in our heart. “Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods” 1 Chronicles 16:23-2
