Is gospel christian music the “soundtrack of your life”? It’s that feeling when the music makes you raise your hands, tightly close your eyes, nod your head, and sway your body. Music that encourages and helps you get through difficult days.
A song that always reminds me of God’s sovereignty, “Your Steps Are Ordered”.
When my faith is challenged and my vision is obscured
When I’m hanging on by a thread
And my footing’s unsure
I hear in the Spirit
One word to help me endure
And it says ordered . . .
“You go into an African-American church, you’ve got to say ‘amen.’ Somebody’s gonna shout [or] speak to the preacher,” says Rev. Pat Spearman, who oversees the University of Louisville’s 85-member Black Diamond Choir. “Gospel music took religious music to another level. It gave permission to white audiences to involve themselves more in the music.
“So many things have happened in the last 20 years that make pain and suffering very real,” Spearman says. “I see gospel music as that piece of the puzzle that will come in and be like a sedative to calm fears and anxieties and unite people and give people a sense of security and serenity.
The Lord uses music to encourage us and give us hope when we need it the most. “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise” James 5:13. T
Today, more than ever, we need hope!
Scripture Songs
Scripture songs which “exalt” God’s greatness and “bless the Lord” stir’s the heart and lift up your life. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God” Colossians 3:16.
Hope and Victory
Listening to gospel music reminds of this hope. That Jesus is the answer, and anything is possible when we have Jesus in our heart. “Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods” 1 Chronicles 16:23-2
The Blood of Jesus
Gospel songs remind us Jesus redeemed us by shedding His blood on Calvary. The foundation of our salvation is exciting. “Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!” Psalm 95:1.
