In our undependable world, gospel music reminds us, just how powerful and dependable the Lord we serve is. Gospel music also addresses the Lord in gratitude and worship.
“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” – Colossians 3:2
Gospel music makes a huge impact on our faith. The phrasing and melody of gospel music make it memorable. The words touch our hearts and minds.
Listening and singing along with gospel music, allows us to connect with God in the deepest part of our soul. Which is why scripture actually commands us to:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” Deuteronomy 6:5 NRSV
A lawyer in the New Testament inquirers about the greatest commandment, Jesus responds by saying:
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37 NRSV
Gospel music lets us express our love for the Lord with our whole heart. Worshiping with gospel music can transform us. It builds us up, convicts us, gives us strength and even restores us.
“I… go around your altar, O Lord, proclaiming thanksgiving aloud,” Psalm 26:6-7 ESV
“Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody!” Psalm 98:5 ESV
“Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!” Psalm 100:2 ESV
Paul, in the New Testament, urges the Ephesians to:
“be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” Ephesians 5:18-20 ESV
Scripture encourages us to honor God with music. As our hearts sing it transforms us, filling us with the Spirit.
Has the Lord used music in a special way in your life and heart? We would love to hear about it.
